Habitat for Humanity recognizes that its impact can be far greater when development is focused on a community, not just an individual home. The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) does just that by transforming neighborhoods using a holistic approach.
Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity has joined residents, nonprofits, businesses, local governments and communities of faith to create and implement a shared vision of revitalization in the Town of Frederica, in southern Kent County. We have successfully built 10 Habitat homes in Frederica with two more homes under construction in this community. As part of NRI, we have also coordinated a community clean-up day and hosted a community block party to bring neighbors together to learn their vision of their neighborhood. We are also collaborating with Frederica town leaders and residents to begin a neighborhood watch program.
When the Habitat homes are completed in Frederica, we plan to implement the same proven NRI programs for revitalization in other Kent County neighborhoods.
