Rebecca is the mother of three adult children and four grandchildren and grew up in Milford. She grew up in the care of other guardians besides her parents, and after her mother died, she was on her own at the age of 16. After graduating high school, Rebecca joined the Army Reserve and completed twelve years of military service. She also completed three college degrees while raising her children, culminating with a Master of Social Work. She eventually retired from the State of Delaware as a social worker, after becoming disabled.
Despite having a stable income, she often found herself displaced in the rental market. More than anything, she wanted to become a homeowner. During COVID, she was all set to move in with her best friend and become her caregiver, but her friend passed away. Rebecca found herself homeless and came to Central Delaware Habitat in search of housing. Now, she is helping to build her own home, in which “to hang her own coat, in her own closet,” and have her family come to visit.
