Our Program
Our homeownership program helps families and individuals achieve their dream of owning a home. Future Habitat homeowners have the unique opportunity to build their own home with CDHFH staff and volunteers. Our future Habitat home buyers are required to collaborate in the construction of their home, participate in CDHFH events, and build financial independence. You will be required to attend an Informational Orientation to begin the process of your application.
Eligibility
To be eligible for our program, you must be a resident of or work in Kent County for 12 consecutive months. If you do not meet this eligibility, please use the links below to contact the county where you live or work.

The Application Process
1. You will need to complete the eligibility form above. Our Qualified Loan Officer (QLO) will call you to ask you for additional information.
2. To receive a loan application, you must fill out the inquiry form here. The application document includes a list of supporting documents that prove your income, assets, and mortgage readiness (Ability to Pay, Willingness to Partner, and Need of Shelter). Applications are only accepted during the open cycle. You will need to return the completed application and all supporting documents to be considered during the current open cycle.
3. A combination of your income and your creditworthiness determines your ability to pay an affordable mortgage. After our QLO verifies your income, you will be asked to pay a $26 credit report fee ($52 for co-applicants).
4. Your need for affordable housing is determined by several factors. Once your ability to pay has been verified with your credit report, our staff and volunteers will visit you and your family in your home for an in-person interview.
5. Your willingness to partner with Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity is demonstrated by you and your family before, during, and after the application process. Our organization’s expectations of a good partner are defined below.
6. Make sure you meet all the requirements before applying, have all your supporting documentation on hand, and respond in a timely fashion to help make the process go smoothly and quickly.
