Habitat for Humanity of Delaware receives Legacy Award in Multiplying Good’s Delaware Salute to Service ceremony

Multiplying Good’s Delaware Salute to Service is Delaware’s premier awards ceremony recognizing unsung heroes across the state. This year, Delaware celebrated the 10th Anniversary of Delaware Salute to Service and was Co-Chaired by Governor & Mrs. John Carney, Tatiana Copeland, and Chai Gadde. Adults and youth were awarded in multiple categories for their service to the community at this annual ceremony.

At this year’s event, Governor John Carney presented the Legacy Award to Habitat for Humanity of Delaware for their work across five decades serving Delaware’s most vulnerable income populations. Since 1986, Habitat for Humanity of Delaware has built or renovated almost 600 homes and served an additional 1,000 households through neighborhood revitalization programs such as critical home repair, refrigerator replacement, and home energy check-ups.

Kevin Gilmore, CEO of Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, Tim Bailey, Executive Director of Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity, and Kevin Smith, CEO of New Castle County Habitat for Humanity, accepted the award on behalf of the thousands of Delawareans that have helped support Habitat for Humanity through employment, volunteering, monetary and material donations, board membership, and advocacy.

“Habitat’s role is to channel people into the needs of the community,” said Kevin Gilmore while addressing the room. “We do this with thousands of volunteers each year.” Habitat believes everyone deserves a decent place to live and continues to serve low-income Delawareans through partnership and empowerment thanks to the support of the generous communities throughout the state.
