Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity is now able to offer Rental Assistance as a part of their Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. CDHFH’s DEHAP Rental Assistance program is addressing the need to give a hand up to those that are currently renting in the State of Delaware.

The ongoing pandemic has caused unemployment rates to increase, an increase in everyday household goods, and other issues that have greatly affected renters in our area. The goal is to provide resources to renters in Kent County, Delaware that may need assistance. CDHFH is humbled to be able to provide another outlet of opportunities to the residents of the community. CDHFH will partner with eligible renters who have been affected directly and indirectly by the COVID-19 pandemic. Rental solutions that the DEHAP Rental Assistance Program will provide are:

– up to 15 months of rental assistance which includes current and future rent, rental arrears, utility arrears, court and late fees, security deposits, and first months rent. More specific information will discussed when you apply.
– Housing stability opportunities through other CDHFH Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative programs and their Homeownership Program.
– Provide emergency housing assistance to renters affected by shutdowns, closures, layoffs, reduced work hours, unpaid leave, financial hardship related to the COVID-19 health crisis

Residents of Kent County that are eligible for this program include individuals who qualified for unemployment or experienced a reduction in income or incurred significant costs or experienced other financial hardship due directly or indirectly to the pandemic. Individuals or households experiencing risk of homelessness or housing instability. Individuals or household’s current income at the time of application is 80% below area median income. Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity would love to introduce Cyra Curry-Stevens to the CDHFH Neighborhood Revitalization initiative team as CDHFH’s Rental Housing Specialist. Cyra was born and raised in Dover, Delaware, where she currently resides with her daughter, Cali, and is proud to be part of the change that Central Delaware Habitat continues to make. Cyra’s goal in participating within the Central Delaware Habitat for Humanity organization is to act as a welcoming liaison to tools and resources used to overcome the obstacles of housing stability. She has been a renter in Dover, Delaware for the last six years and has personally overcome housing stability obstacles during her journey of the home-buying process. She strives to encourage perseverance, determination, and focus on low-to-moderate income families that are experiencing a housing crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
